Silly Slimline Slants 5 Ways

Hello there, Carrie Rhoades here. I love being back on the Heffy Doodle blog and YouTube channel. In today’s video I am sharing 5 Ways to use the Silly Slimline Slants die. And all 5 of these techniques can be used with other cover plate dies that you already own.

First, let’s watch the video so you can see all of these techniques.

You can also view this video on the Heffy Doodle YouTube channel.

First of all, let’s take a look at this die used “as is”, meaning I die cut it from pink card stock and glued it to my slimline card base.

One cool thing about this particular die, is that you can stamp in the opening, which is where I added my sentiments.

Now, let’s jump in to the 5 Ways to use this die, or any cover plate die.

  1. Layer It

I had to sneak in a Christmas card!!!

Layer it means, just that. Layer a panel on top of the cover die cut, letting only a portion of it show. This gives you a completely different look.

2. Inlay

When you die cut your cover plate panel, save the fall out pieces and then cut a second panel from a different color of card stock.

This allows you to inlay a different color into the open spaces on the panel. Here I adhered my pink die cut panel and then glued in the orange fall out pieces. The card front is now smooth giving it a different look than had I glued the pink panel to an orange card base. Inlay gives you lots of other fun options, like having each stripe be a different color. Or use a specialty paper for the inlaid pieces, like glitter paper or patterned paper.

3. Cut 2, Rotate 1

This is one of my favorite techniques to do with a cover plate die and the Silly Slimline Slants is perfect for doing this, as it look like plaid when you layer the two panels. The trick to this is to flip one of the panels over before layering them.

4. Use it as a Stencil

Die cut a panel and use it as a stencil is such a fun way to use a cover plate die. It gives you a very different look. And you can combine this technique with the last one. Stencil the panel one time, rotate the stencil and add a second layer!

5. Make a Shaker

A backdrop die cut can make a really fun shaker panel. Just adhere a piece of window sheet to the back of the die cut. Add foam tape all the way around the edge of the panel, fill this with shaker elements. Then, I like to add a second window sheet to this, trapping the shaker elements in place and making it easier for me to adhere this to my card base.

I hope that you have enjoyed todays cards and maybe got a few new ideas for playing with cover plate dies.
