Wishing you a Magical Birthday with Special Guest Jess Francisco

Hey friends! It’s Jess Francisco and I’m so thrilled to be a guest on the Heffy Doodle blog today! I can’t wait to share this fun scene card with you, so let’s get started! There’s a video tutorial below or you can read on to learn more!

Building up fun scenes is one of my favorite things to do when I’m making cards, so I couldn’t resist creating this cute little scene! I started off by stamping out the castle image from Happily Ever Crafter stamp set. Then, I stamped two adorable fairies from Absotoothly Awesome. I positioned them so they’d look like they were carrying the castle – how fun!
Once my stamping was done, I cut out masks for each of the images and covered them so that I could do some ink blending. I chose Distress Oxide inks for this. I used Black Soot, Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves, Victorian Velvet, and Dried Marigold for the sky. Then I used Lucky Clover and Pine Needles for the grassy area at the bottom. I used a little Distress Spray Stain in Picket Fence and then watered down some white gesso and splatter it on to my background with the Distress Splatter Brush. I love the varied look this gives!
Once my panel was dry, I peeled off the masks and I started on my coloring. I used the Spectrum Noir Classique alcohol markers and I absolutely love how it all turned out! I added in some random strokes of color in the grass to give it texture and make it a little more dimensional.
I decided to do some heat embossing for my sentiments. I pieced together ‘wishing you a fairy magical birthday’ from Happily Ever Crafter, Absotoothly Awesome, and the Fairy standalone die. For the ‘fairy’ die I used some sparkly gold scraps I had on hand. To get the black shadow, I laid down the die and traced around the edges, then fussy cut it. Then I glued the die-cut right on top. A perfect fit!
I adhered my heat embossed sentiment strips and popped the word fairy up on foam for a little added dimension. I mounted the card panel on a white A2 sized card base and that finished off my card for today!
I really hope you loved it – I would love to know what you think of the card. Do you like to create scene cards or do you stick to the clean and simple style? Be sure to leave a comment and let us know what you think. Hugs and love,
