Trio of cards with the same design

Hi Heffy Doodle Friends!

Happy to be back on the Heffy Doodle blog today with this trio of cards. I was kind of in a creative rut the past 2 weeks. I lacked inspiration and just didn’t know what to make. Does that happen to you sometimes? I hate it when that happens! The thing I always tend to do is to go back to a previous (simple) design and just work with that. It just took me a bit of ink blending and coloring, but since the design was already in my head, the whole process was really not difficult anymore.

Now let’s dive right in!

I made 3 cards with the same design. I think I will give them to someone as a little gift. So first of all I die cut 3 rectangles with the Whimsically Wonky die set. I used Bristol Smooth because that’s just the best paper for ink blending in my opinion.

After that, I stamped all my images with Versafine Onyx Black ink onto Bristol Smooth cardstock. I wanted to use my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to do some coloring. I chose images from 3 different sets, since I wanted my cards to be for different occasions. I used:

After stamping them in my Misti, I colored them with my markers. You can find the colors I used below.

  • Koala:
    • Fog Gray – Mid Gray
    • Light Pink
    • Dark Grey
  • Branch:
    • Mid Brown – Deep Brown
    • May Green – Green
  • Mouse:
    • Fog Green – Green Gray
    • Dark Gray
    • Pink Haze
  • Fox:
    • Light Brown – Brown
    • Dark Gray
  • Houses:
    • Geranium Red – Deep Red
    • Blue Gray – Gray
    • Brick Beige – Mid Gray
    • Shadow Mauve
  • Hats: Yellow Green / Geranium Red

I cut all my images with their coordinating dies and of course, my mini die cutting machine. (Oh man, I really love that machine…) I also added a few dots to all of the images with my white gel pen.

Then I masked off the bottom half of my 3 rectangles with Heffy Doodle Memo Tape. I only wanted to do my ink blending on the top part of my panels. I chose the trusted Distress Oxides to do my blending.

  • Greens: Twisted Citron – Mowed Lawn
  • Blues: Speckled Egg – Peacock Feathers – Chipped Sapphire
  • Pinks: Saltwater Taffy – Seedless Preserves – Chipped Sapphire

I splattered on a little bit of water to add some interest to the background.

After that I stamped my sentiments from the Everyday Sentiment Duos. I did this with Versafine Onyx Black ink, because it’s a really crisp black ink. Great for sentiments!

I did want to ‘ground’ my images a bit, so with the mini Paper Trimmer, I cut 0.5inch from one of the papers in the Man Cave Paper Pad and glued this on the edge of my ink blended part.

I adhered all my images with foam squares to add a little bit of dimension to my card. I also wanted to add a cute little heart at the bottom of the panel. I die cut it with one of the Whole Lotta Hearts die set. I used Heffy Doodle cardstock in the colors: Simply Teal-icious, Kiwi Crush and Wildberry.

I stamped a little smiley face on every heart. Isn’t that just adorable?

After adhering my card panels on a A2sized white card base, my 3 cards were all finished. 3 cards of the same design, but 3 different occasions and 3 different color combinations. I like making ‘unique’ pieces.

I really hope you like these! I am interested though… How do you get out of a creative rut? Comment below and I will be happy to read all your suggestions!

See you soon with another card!

Love, Jarle x
