Treat Yo’Self with Rainbow Cards – Guest Designer Jeannie

Hi everyone! It’s Jeannie (InsideoutJeans) guest designing on the Heffy Doodle blog today. I met Lesley in person at Creativation this year and she’s such a delight. She is full of positive energy and kindness! I really wanted to create some cards that reflected the same.

To create something bright and happy, my mind went straight to rainbows. Lately, rainbows have taken a forefront in my cards because it’s been a really strange time with sheltering in place and social distancing. I like having the reminder that after every storm, there’s always a rainbow.

Treat Yo’Self is such an adorable set and I fell in love with the cotton candy image. I didn’t want to just use that one image and that’s how I ended up with three different cards.

I stamped everything out using Versafine Onyx Black ink so I could heat emboss them using clear embossing powder. I wanted to do some watercoloring since these images are really spacious. By having the images heat embossed, it helps me contain the colors within its respective areas.

After I finished watercoloring all the images (which I did in rainbow colors), I decided to ink blend a rainbow background as well. I used this one A2 panel to help create three cards. I trimmed it down to two strips of 1.75 in x 5.50 and then two strips of .25 x 5.50 inches.

CARD 1:

I placed my first rainbows trip horizontally on the card adding the matching popsicles colors along the rainbow. For the sentiment, I stamped it using Blackout ink on the bottom right of the rainbow panel.

CARD 2:

For my second card, I wanted to add the rainbow strip vertically on the left hand side. This time, I’m using the ice cream cones and placing them in opposite rainbow order. Since I had white space on the right, I added a sentiment in the bottom right hand corner. I trimmed down my card panel a quarter of a inch and added a piece of striped black and white washi for a bit of interest so my first two cards didn’t look exactly the same.

CARD 3:

I added a piece black cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment in white. Since I had two strips of the rainbow panel left, I added it to the top and bottom of the black cardstock. I grouped three of the cotton candy cones together in opposing corners to finish off the card.

I just love how these turned out and they make me feel super happy. Do you like incorporating rainbows into your cards?

If you’re interested, I have a video for my process of putting together these three.
