Special Occasions – September 2023 Challenge
Hello crafty friends, Amanda Stevens here again, to announce the winner of August’s challenge and issue a new one for September! We’d like to thank everyone who entered the Sweet Summer Challenge last month. The cards were so adorable! You can see all of the entries over in the Heffy Doodlers group on Facebook. While you’re there, you can share your projects and meet new crafty friends. I try to share Lesley’s weekly videos there too as soon as she goes live.
I know you’re excited to see who won last month’s challenge, so please help me congratulate Steph Tucker! Isn’t her box card awesome? She mixed and matches several sets to create the cutest scene.
To choose the winner, all entries (except those by Lesley and the current design team) were assigned a number, in order of posting. We used random.org to choose the winning number.
One of the best things about handmade cards is that each one can be unique and customized for the recipient. Handmade cards make SPECIAL OCCASIONS even more special. This month, show us your cards that celebrate those occasions, using Heffy Doodle products (mostly), and enter for your chance to win!
To kick the challenge off, I made a fun card for my niece who’s hitting double digits this year…
To create a sparkly background, I stenciled zebra stripes onto a soft pink card base with glitter paste. It’s much faster and easier than coloring up a big scene. To ground the pair of zebras, I tucked them under a sentiment strip. The number balloons represent my niece’s 10th birthday, so she’ll know I made the card just for her! (As if the pink, glittery details weren’t evidence enough.)

I love the way the striped background coordinates with the cute little zebras. Of course, you could change the critters and stencil for a different look. Change the colors and swap the glitter paste for regular texture paste for a less “girly” version. Think of this card as a template, or sketch, to base your own cards on. I can’t wait to see what you’ll create!

To enter, go to the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group and post a picture of your project in the September 2023 Challenge album (it will be pinned to the top). Enter as many cards as you like. The winner will be randomly chosen from all entries posted prior to Midnight (UT) on October 1, 2023. You are not limited to cards, feel free to post tags, scrapbook pages, home decor projects, etc. Just be sure the bulk of the stamps and dies used are from Heffy Doodle, and you incorporate the SPECIAL OCCASIONS theme.
