Slide on over and have a Crabtastic day!

Hi everyone! Peggy here! I am back with my second card as a Heffy Doodle guest designer for August. We’re spending even more time on the beach and I think this card would be perfect for a sunny birthday.

I simply love making slimline cards and adding interactive elements makes them even more fun. The idea for this card actually came from a new shirt I got my 3 year old son, that shows a couple of crabs having a good time and says ‘Crabtastic’ on it. So now, everytime he sees a crab image he shouts ‘Look mum, Crabstactstick’! It’s simply adorable. Therefore, this card is for him! So slide on over and let me show you how I made this Crabtastic card!

I started by cutting a large stitched rectangle from Simply Teal-icious cardstock. Next I cut two white cardstock panels to create the scene on. I cut a slider rail for my little crabs to run around in and used scissors to create the beach panel.  The beach is coloured with Tea Dye and Scattered Straw Distress Ink with some gold and white watercolour splatters. On the back panel I used the awesome Rascal Alphabet Letters to stamp a ‘Crabtastic’ sentiment. With the Heffy Doodle Memo Tape I masked off the sentiment and used the Cloudy Skies Stencil and the Rays the Roof Stencil to create a fun background with sea, clouds and rays of sunshine. For the sea I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide. The sky is Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide. The rays of sunshine are a combination of Scattered Straw and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide.

I stamped my crab and birthday images with alcohol marker friendly ink from the super cute A Little Shellfish stamp set and used the coördinating dies to cut them out. I coloured the images with my copic markers and gave them some highlights with white gel pen. Then it was assembly time! I used slider elements on the back of the crabs I adhered with Glubert glue and added paper ovals to the back to seal them into the rail. I popped up the beach panel with Heffy Doodle Foam Tape (which is a bit thicker than regular foam tape, ideal for this purpose!). I finished the scene with the birthday images. Lastly I added palm trees I stamped using Mowed Lawn and Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink from the Dino Time stamp set.

Lastly, I used some tape runner to stick the scene to the teal background and to a white card base. And it’s no card of mine if it doesn’t have Glossy Accents. That is always my very last step! Hope you are inspired and wishing you a crafty day!

Long distance hugs,

Peggy
