Season’s Greetings

Hi Heffy Doodlers! Tallie back with you today for one last festive card this year – a cozy living room scene featuring Trim the Tree, Fireside Dreams and Happy Holiday Sentiment Stamps. I hope everyone has had a good break and wish you all the best for 2024!

The stamping portion required a little bit of creative masking to get the elements stamped out in the correct order. Starting from the elements in front, I stamped out the presents, the fire, the plate of food and the dog onto some Alcohol Marker Friendly Cardstock and some Jet Black Ink. I created masks for these out of some sticky notes and stamped out the rest of the scene elements – the carpets, the tree, the fireplace and accessories.

I always start out with the background so I don’t risk bleed out from the foreground colours. I chose some light yellows for the wall (I added a little stripe detail to add a little bit of interest) and some dark, warm browns for the floor. Originally, I’d planned on making this a darker scene with some intense lighting, but changed my mind when I thought about sentiment placement. Besides, this doggo can have a good nap with the lights on! 🙂

I chose some bright, festive colours to colour in the scene, making sure to use at least three or four markers for each colour to get the dept of shadow and highlight. I added some reflective light detail using some light yellow markers to give that warm fire glow effect. Tip: for darker colours light the tree or dog, lay down a band of the yellow where your highlight would be. This not only gives you some guidance for the reflected light placement, but also allows you to blend it in a little better.

Once I’d coloured in the scene, I finished off the card with two sentiments from the Happy Holiday Sentiment Stamps.

A perfect, cosy card to end the year on. Have a good one! 🙂
