Oval Shaped Card for a loved one

Hi Heffy Doodle Friends!

I’m happy to be back here for another card in my ‘Sweet Scenes’ Blog Series.

Everyone in our cardmaking community was super busy this month, making Valentine Themed cards with lots of pinks and reds. I wanted to make something else though, a Valentine’s/Galentine’s card but more with a wintery feel to it. So I used one of my favorite sets, which is the Deer To Me!

Let’s see how this card came together.

I started with a piece of blue Huckleberry cardstock and I die cut it, using the largest oval of the Ovally Excited die set. I did want to add a little bit of ink blending to my oval panel, so I used Black Soot Distress Oxide on the edges. Regular Distress ink won’t show up on this dark colored cardstock.

After that, I adhered the panel with removable adhesive on my Wendi Vecchi Make Art Station. I placed the lovely Twinkle Twinkle stencil on top. Then I took out my stencil paste from Lawn Fawn in the color ‘pearl’ and smeared on the paste so I could get lovely stars on my background. This gives such a beautiful effect! You do have to clean your stencil right away. Don’t leave it there, go to the sink and wash the paste off immediately, or your stencil is ruined. (Ask me how I know…)

Then I stamped my images from the Deer To Me set with Versafine Onyx black ink on Bristol Smooth cardstock since I wanted to use my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to do my coloring.

The colors I used are listed below:

  • Trees: Pale Gray – Brick Beige
  • Deer: Oatmeal – Mid Brown – Deep Brown / Oatmeal – Beige / Light Pink

I cut out my images with the coordinating dies and my mini die cutting machine.

To ground my images, I die cut another piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock with the same oval from the Ovally Excited dies and a hillside border. I put a little bit of Distress Oxide in Tumbled Glass on the edge. I adhered that border onto the oval background panel with the stenciled stars.

Time to adhere the images now. The trees were adhered with liquid glue. My deer were put down with foam squares for a little bit of dimension.

For the sentiment, I white embossed the ‘I’m quite fawned of you’ on Merlot cardstock. I stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink, sprinkled on white embossing powder and heat set it with my heat gun. Then I trimmed it down, using the mini paper trimmer.

To get an oval shaped cardbase, you take that same oval die and you put it on top of a folded cardbase, making sure the top part of the oval is off the edge of the fold. When the cardbase is done, all that’s left to do is to adhere the card panel to the cardbase.

I had a blast making this card! I hope this gave you some inspiration for your next crafty project!

I will be back soon with another card! Have a great day!

Love, Jarle x
