Otterly Wonderful Christmas!

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all managed to have a good break and are ready to get back into crafting!

I haven’t quite left Christmas alone yet so I’m sharing this non-traditional card for the next in my CAS (Clean and Simple) blog series. I made this card for my Postie, partly in apology for all the heavy craft parcels she delivered over the last year! I used a mix of new and old products: the otters from the Otter Side stamp set, the Yappy Happy Mail stamps, the Christmas Heffy Cut and the Scalloped Square Masquerade Stencil. Swap out the ‘Christmas’ die cut for any other celebration and remove the snow, and you have a versatile design for any occasion.

I started out with the background, aligning the Scalloped Square Masquerade Stencil centrally on my A6 card panel using the handy etched marks on the stencil. I chose two Distress Oxide Ink colours to blend on in a gradient: Picked Raspberry and Broken China. These two colours when mixed give a lovely purply mid-tone.

Once dry, I used a white gel pen to add some snow to the background. Dots of different sizes help to give a little more dimension.

Next, I stamped out the punny sentiment, made from a couple of stamps from the Otter Side stamp set. A MISTI (or any other brand of stamping tool) helps to get the sentiment lined up straight! An extra tip is to stamp out on some acetate first if you’re not sure about your alignment, especially if you’re combining multiple stamps. I used some VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink as this stamps out wonderfully crisp sentiments.

I used the Christmas Heffy Cut to cut out ‘Christmas’ three times from some Oreo Crunch black cardstock so I could stack them together. Make sure not to loose those dots for the ‘i’!

I adhered this directly underneath the stamped sentiment and added some Glossy Accents to give some shine.

I saved my favourite part for last – the Copic colouring! I stamped out the two otters from the Otter Side stamp set, the postbox and letters from the Yappy Happy Mail stamp set in some Memento Tuxedo black ink onto some blending cardstock. I coloured them all in with my alcohol markers. I used some E30s and E50s for the otters (E70’s also work great) and my favourite red combination for the post box: R89, R37, R24, R14. I cut them out with the coordinating dies. I love how the post box die cuts out a slit for the letter!

To finish off the card, I mounted the otters, postbox and letter onto the background with some foam tape. A few extra details with a white and black gel pen finish it off nicely!

Thanks for reading! I hope this inspired you to create a CAS card of your own design!
