Ocean Wishes

Hello, Heffy Doodlers! Tallie here with you today, sharing this ocean-themed scene card featuring the You Go, Gul and Lil Lighthouse stamp (the freebie with the last release) sets. Shock, horror! I actually used a medium other than my Copic markers today – my Zig Clean Color Real Brush watercolour markers. I’ve not used them in a long, long time so I thought it was time I branched out a little!

I started out with my circle masquerade stencil, lining it up so I could get a central focal point. I used some Bristol Smooth board, as I know this type of paper works best for the Zig markers. I arranged the stamps over the stencil, but removed it before I stamped out the images in some Versafine Clair Nocturne ink as I wanted some of the images to pop out from that central focal point. I also used a bit of Heffy Tape to mask off the lighthouse so I could get it sinking into the sea.

The next step was to create some masks from Heffy Tape so I could stamp out the rest of the scene. I replaced the stencil and used the waves from the Otter Side stamp set to repeatedly stamp out the sea.

And now onto the fun part – the colouring! I prefer bright colours, so I just used the markers without a water brush to colour in the scene. I’ve done quite a few scenes now with waves with my Copics, so I just coloured them in the same way. The only difference is that I had to wait a little bit for one wave to dry before I started the next so it wouldn’t bleed.

When I removed the stencil, I had a little bit of a wobbly line from where the water seeped through the paper under the stencil. I used a thin marker to draw a line around the stencil to finish it off and match it to the rest of the lines on the scene.

The final touch was to add a sentiment from the Bold Banner sentiments set. I stamped this out using some Catherine Pooler Samba ink – this is perfect for these type of blocked sentiments as they always stamp out perfectly!

And here’s the finished card! I encourage you to try a different medium once in a while and get the most out of the craft stash! 🙂
