Mirror, Mirror – March 2023 Challenge

Hello crafty friend. Amanda Stevens back again on the first Tuesday of the month to kick off a new Heffy Doodlers challenge! First, let’s announce February’s winner though. We’d like to thank everyone who entered the Enchanted Embossing Challenge last month. There were some neat ideas and several kinds of embossing! You can see all of the entries over in the Heffy Doodlers group on Facebook. While you’re there, you can share your projects and meet new crafty friends.

I know you’re excited to see who won last month’s challenge, so please help me congratulate Irene Rhodes! Isn’t her heat embossed background cool? I love the partial rainbow ombre and the sparkle!

To choose the winner, all entries (except those by Lesley and the current design team) were assigned a number, in order of posting. We used random.org to choose the winning number.

We had so much fun with embossing last month, let’s try another technique. This month, the challenge theme is MIRROR, MIRROR! That’s right, we’re playing with mirror stamping. Have you tried it before? It’s a great way to stretch your supplies, or to flip a critter to face the opposite way. I love this technique for spinner cards. Here’s the card I made to kick off the challenge…

Isn’t it cute? I just love interactive cards! Head on over to Facebook to see this spinner in action.

If you aren’t familiar with the mirror stamping technique, I’ll show you how. You’ll need a solid surface stamp (if you don’t have one, you can substitute a grip mat, silicone mat, or even the back of a large background stamp). Remove the foam pad and line your solid stamp up in the corner of your stamp positioner. Place the images that you want to stamp in mirror on top of the solid stamp and pick them up with the lid of your positioner. Ink them up and stamp directly onto the mirror stamp. Then carefully slide your paper into the positioner and stamp. This transfers ink to both sides of your paper, with the mirror images on the back. Color the back side and outline with a black pen if desired. To cut out the images, flip your paper over and use the stamped images to line up your dies. (Note: I stamped my images to use in the original orientation first, then rotated my paper to stamp the mirrored images.)

With a set of original orientation fairies and a set of mirrored images, I sandwiched them together with a piece of clear thread in the middle to create my spinner. I die cut a Fancy Nancy heart window from the front of an A2 card base, then taped off the sides and stenciled a teal and purple background. Using nesting circle dies, I cut a purple circle to fit inside the window of my card and a larger circle to nest with the heart die and cut several white frames. I layered the top and bottom of the clear thread between the card base and the frames to hold the fairy in place.

To decorate the card, I ink blended and stamped a sentiment onto a wavy banner, then tucked leaves and flowers behind it. A healthy dose of sequins, leftover hearts, and a sparkle pen embellish the card.

If you’d like to recreate a card like this, here are the supplies you’ll need…

Here are the Heffy Doodle products I used:

Fancy Nancy Frame Dies
Love is Everywhere Stencil
Wavy Banner Sentiment Stamps and Coordinating Dies

Inspired to try mirror stamping? Pull out your Heffy Doodle goodies and create a card of your own. To enter, go to the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group and post a picture of your project in the March 2024 Challenge album (it will be pinned to the top). Enter as many cards as you like. The winner will be randomly chosen from all entries posted prior to Midnight (UT) on March 31, 2024. You are not limited to cards, feel free to post tags, scrapbook pages, home decor projects, etc. Just be sure the bulk of the stamps and dies used are from Heffy Doodle, and you incorporate the MIRROR, MIRROR theme. Good luck my friend!

Remember, when you enter this month’s challenge, you’ll have a chance to win a £35 gift voucher! Questions, just ask. Need some new critter stamps or stencils? Visit the Heffy Doodle shop and check out the amazing selection!

Don’t forget, you enter the challenge in the Facebook group, not here. Oh, and let’s keep it PG please 😉

I’ll be back on April 2nd to announce the winner and the next challenge. Until then, I’ll see you on Facebook…
