Meow You Doin’? Shadow Box Card

Hello! This is Megan and I am back to share another card with you. I enjoyed using the sweet kitties from Purrfect Day so much last time that I decided to bring them back for today’s card. Of course they are up to some silly hijinks so let’s check it out!

Since “Move It, With Megan” features interactive designs, I decided to create a shadow box card. This style is a bit more straight forward to assemble than most interactive mechanisms and offers a wow factor for the recipient that I really love. It’s also a bit smaller than a normal A2 size card; however, the depth of the box allows for you to build the card from the front to back instead of across the front of a panel.

I began by stamping images from Purrfect Day, A Little Shellfish, and Sealy Friends onto White Cardstock using a hybrid ink. I then colored the images using Copic Markers and die cut them using the coordinating dies.

For the shadow box, I used Lawn Fawn’s Shadow Box Card Die Set with their Shadow Box Theater and Shadow Box Ocean Add-On Die Sets. I wanted to make the shadow box look like an aquarium so I added in some sand and water elements to the inside. I die cut the pieces for the inside of the tank from Bristol Smooth Cardstock and then ink blended the pieces using Distress Oxide Inks. For the sand pieces, I used my go to combo of Antique Linen and Vintage Photo. For the water pieces, I used Tumbled Glass and Peacock Feather.

I used liquid glue to adhere the scene building elements to the inside of the box. (I have found that liquid glue holds better than other adhesives since the box flexes as you open and flatten it.) I wanted to add even more depth to the scene inside the box. I did this by cutting thin strips of acetate with glue dots to pop up some of the fish images and the water at the top of the tank. I just love how it looks like the cat at the top of the tank has been playing in the water!

To finish off the design, I heat embossed a sentiment from Purrfect Day in white onto the dark grey strip at the top of the tank. This would be a great card to send to someone to let them know that you are thinking about them or just checking in.
