Heffy Doodle Patriotic Sending Love with Thermoweb and Koren Wiskman

Hello everyone, Koren here! Today is a fantastic day to send a card full of hugs. With the US Independence Day holiday coming up on July 4, I decided to create a patriotic card inspired by old and new United States Postal Service mail. To help me do that I am using the Yappy Happy Mail stamp set by Heffy Doodle and Gina K and Thermoweb’s awesome Glitz Glitter Gel in Red Velvet. The Heffy Doodle design team is collaborating with Thermoweb to bring us inspiration using both of these companies’ awesome products.

I started with a piece of Neenah 110 lb. cardstock cut to 4 1/4 by 5 1/2. I used Thermoweb’s Purple Tape in the 1.5 inch variety to tape down my cardstock to a work surface that is easily cleaned. I knew right away that I wanted to use Heffy Doodle’s Candy Store stencil for the background panel I was creating. I used Thermoweb’s NEW Pixie Spray to treat the back of my stencil before putting it in place atop my paper. I wanted to use two different mediums and colors on this background, so this required some masking. I used the 1 inch Purple Tape to mask the lines that I wanted to spare from the first application of color. I chose to mask every other open line of the stencil.

I used the Glitz Glitter Gel first, but I honestly don’t think it mattered which one I did first as long as you leave it alone long enough to dry for the medium you are using. I used the Glitter Gel first and let it dry completely. Then I lined up my stencil again and shielded the red using the same strips of Purple Tape used previously. This time I used my Ranger Ink Blending tools to apply some Nuvo Empire Blue Ink. I used a generous amount of ink. I wasn’t trying to blend the color on, I was simply trying to add solid blue lines of ink. Once I carefully removed the tape and stencil, it reveals a red, white, and blue striped background that really shines.

While the Glitz Glitter Gel was drying I stamped some of the images from the Heffy Doodle Yappy Happy Mail stamp set. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp them onto Neenah 110 lb. Solar White Classic Crest Cardstock. I colored them using my Nuvo Alcohol Markers. I used Marina Blue, Pebble Beach, Coconut Shell, Stormy Grays sets and Pitched Black and Strawberry Jam individual markers. I used the Yappy Happy Mail coordinating dies to cut them out. To add a little bit of fun, I stamped the paw print onto the puppies envelope using Nuvo Poppy Red.

I also used the same Empire Blue and Nuvo Safari Green to create a background piece for my images to live on. I masked half of a piece of Neenah 110 with Heffy Doodle Memo Tape and blended on the Empire Blue on the top half and then moved the tape to shield that while I ink blended the Safari Green on the bottom half. To blend this ink I used my Nuvo Blender Brushes.

I used the Heffy Doodle Imperial Stitched Rectangles to cut out the background panels. The first that I used was the third from largest of the set, and I used it to cut my rectangle from Papertrey Ink’s Classic Kraft cardstock and added to a Simon Says Stamp Fog card base. The card base was cut to standard A2 size in a top folding orientation. I used Nuvo Tape Runner adhesive to stick them together. Then, I took the striped panel, and the sky and ground ink blended panel and cut them down using the 5th from largest of the same rectangle die set as before. I used Scotch 3M foam tape to adhere both panels in a wonky fashion over the kraft panel. I used the same foam tape on both panels so parts of the sky and ground panel are double foam tape. Those around the bottom and upper right which hang off of the striped panel. I arranged my scene of images using the same foam tape.

As for a sentiment, I used the Heffy Doodle Sending Heffy Cuts word die and cut it from the striped panel, trying to arrange the word so that the stripes go in the opposite direction of the panel already on the card. I think this step makes it look nicer and stand out more on the card. I cut the same “Sending” word die an additional 3 times and adhered it with very thin strips of foam tape. The sub-sentiment was stamped with Versafine Claire Nocturne Ink and cut out using the Heffy Doodle Strips of Ease die set.

I hope you enjoyed my card project today, and thanks to Thermoweb for wonderful collaboration. The Yappy Happy Mail stamp set does include different options to recreate this type of card for your country as well. So, even though the USPS was the inspiration behind my particular card, you should be able to change the design to suit any mail delivery service.
