Get Well Soon – Shape Card with Die Cutting

Hi, everyone! Today I’m sharing a card that uses a lot of die cutting to make a cute shape card with a detailed and beautiful background. Let’s get started!

Fellow design team member, Franci, always makes the cutest shape cards and I wanted to give it a go after seeing some of her adorable designs. I started by die cutting three of the largest Stitched Hearts Dies. I needed two for my card front and one for the card base. Next I took dies from the sets Whole Lotta Hearts and Sun, Moon & Stars from one of the stitched hearts. I used tiny dies as well as the larger ones from the sets to mix and match and fill the inside of the heart with die cut holes. I did my best to fill any obvious gaps, but you don’t need to be too particular with this design because all the painting I did later filled any gaps I had.

After the die cut portion was done, I ink blended over the second stitched heart using Blueprint Sketch, Broken China, Scattered Straw and Fossilized Amber. Then I smooshed each other colors on my glass mat, watered them down and splattered them over the ink blended portion. I also did this with white paint. Once that was dry I adhered the two hearts together. I love the way you see the messy but beautiful background through the die cut holes! Next I die cut a Stitched Strip of Ease from white card stock and heat embossed a sentiment from Everday Sentiment Duos on it. I eyeballed how long the sentiment was and did some creative die cutting to make the strip shorter than it actually is.

I adhered the sentiment to the card with foam tape and attached the card back with some strong adhesive tape. I decided I wanted somemore gold to tie in the embossed sentiment, so I masked the sentiment strip and splattered some gold paint over the entire card front. I also took some of the die cut pieces I had cut out and added them back in the cutouts for some added detail. And that’s my card for today! I hope you enjoyed it. Do you make a lot of cards that use this much die cutting? I’m usually more of a “colorer” but I always love some cute die cut backgrounds. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I’ll see you again soon with another card!

This is such a cute idea. I have never thought to just cut out images and decorate the back paper. NICE
