Fireside Christmas Dreams

Hello Darlings! It’s Jo here as Heffy Doodle’s December Guest Designer and I am super excited to reveal my first card for the the month. Have you managed to check out the recent Christmas release? If not, I have utilised two stamps sets for the first card: Fireside Dreams and Trim The Tree. These two sets work perfectly together to create a cosy Winter scene. To find out how I made this card, please see below.

Plan Your Layout. When creating a one-layer card, the most important step is to think about the layout of your card before stamping anything. Take your time and have some fun! Think about what image you would like at the forefront of your scene, and work your way backwards. I planned my layout on a pre-cut White Cardstock using the largest die from the ‘Deckled Paper Hugs (A2)‘ die set.

Stamping and Masking. Start to stamp and mask your images. I use a stamping tool, such as a MISTI to ensure I have clear lines and can double stamp if needed. Once your front images have been stamped and masked, next stamp and mask the background layer. An Example from the above photo: I first stamped the dog, then the rug and fireplace.

Background. Using Low-Tack tape, I divided the background so that I could create a wall and carpet. For the wall, I used Distress Oxides in ‘Dried Marigold’ and ‘Victorian Velvet’. To create the wallpaper effect I used Heffy Doodle’s ‘Vertical Vines‘ stencil. For the carpet, I used Distress Oxide ‘Shaded Lilac’.

Coloring. Once the background is complete, remove masking and finish off your design by coloring in your images. Some prefer to color their images before masking and completing the background, however, I personally prefer to colour after 🙂 Do what works best for you! I used Ohuhu markers to color in my images. I used Gelly Roll pens in White and Clear Sparkle to add some highlights and shines.

Sentiment. Using the stamping tool and Versafine ink in Black, I took a sentiment from the ‘Fireside Dreams‘ stamp set, and stamped the words above the fireplace.

I hope you enjoy this card and more importantly, I wish you a wonderful Holiday season ahead. Stay warm for those in cold countries, and stay cool for those in hot countries 🙂 Crafty Hugs and Love, Jo x

Jo, your card is just Darling. Love the design and the way you separated the wall from the carpet. I really enjoy reading your post, very informative! It’s great when you can take something away with you after reading ones post. Thank you so much for the tips! I will definitely use them in the future. I actually took a snapshot of your post to keep in reach when creating.
