Enchanted Embossing – February 2023 Challenge

Hello crafty friend. Amanda Stevens here, and it’s time to kick off a new Heffy Doodlers challenge! First, let’s announce January’s winner though. We’d like to thank everyone who entered the Bold Banners Challenge last month. There were some great ideas and cute cards! You can see all of the entries over in the Heffy Doodlers group on Facebook. While you’re there, you can share your projects and meet new crafty friends.

I know you’re excited to see who won last month’s challenge, so please help me congratulate Tracy Wooderson! Isn’t her banner card adorable? I love the different patterns and the sentiments on the banners; they make a great background. Of course, those cute little frogs are the perfect accents!

To choose the winner, all entries (except those by Lesley and the current design team) were assigned a number, in order of posting. We used random.org to choose the winning number.

As we hop into February, I thought it would be fun to play with techniques. This month, the challenge theme is ENCHANTED EMBOSSING! One of my favorite ways to use stencils is to dry emboss with them. I’m also a big fan of heat embossing. It seems there are an infinite number of powders available now. Did you know there are even scented embossing powders? To kick off the challenge, I decided to create a faux frog skin pattern and then die cut a jumbo sentiment from it. Take a look…

Isn’t the texture neat? I really like it! To create the faux frog skin, I ink blended blue and green ink through a cheetah stencil and then blended more blue and green ink on top of the whole panel. (You could use all green inks, but I wanted two-toned frogs. Green and purple would be a good combo too!) I covered the panel with embossing ink and clear powder, before melting it. By only using one layer of clear embossing powder, the panel develops a shiny, slightly bumpy “orange peel” texture. It looks so cool!

Don’t you just love jumbo sentiments? They make great focal points, and you only need a few small images to decorate. For this card, I added tone-on-tone die cuts to help fill out the background and scattered sequins for sparkle.

If you’d like to recreate a card like this, here are the supplies you’ll need…

Here are the Heffy Doodle products I used:
Wildside Stencil
Versamark Ink
Hooray Jumbo Sentiment Die
Little Label Stamps and Coordinating Dies
Be Hoppy Stamps and Coordinating Dies
Build A Pond Dies
Tutti Frutti Sparkle Mix

Inspired to add ENCHANTED EMBOSSING to your cards? Pull out your Heffy Doodle goodies and create a card of your own. To enter, go to the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group and post a picture of your project in the February 2024 Challenge album (it will be pinned to the top). Enter as many cards as you like. The winner will be randomly chosen from all entries posted prior to Midnight (UT) on March 3, 2024. You are not limited to cards, feel free to post tags, scrapbook pages, home decor projects, etc. Just be sure the bulk of the stamps and dies used are from Heffy Doodle, and you incorporate the ENCHANTED EMBOSSING theme. Good luck my friend!

Remember, when you enter this month’s challenge, you’ll have a chance to win a £35 gift voucher! Questions, just ask. Need some new jumbo word dies or stencils? Visit the Heffy Doodle shop and check out the fantastic selection!

Don’t forget, you enter the challenge in the Facebook group, not here. Oh, and let’s keep it PG please 😉

I’ll be back on March 5th to announce the winner and the next challenge. Until then, I’ll see you on Facebook…

The Heffy Doodlers Challenge is not sponsored by, nor affiliated with Facebook. To be eligible to win, you must be at least 18 years old, and agree to allow Heffy Doodle permission to use your submitted photos for promotional purposes.
