Custom Sentiments with Alphabet Dies: Part 1 – Happy Bee-day!

Hello, Heffydoodlers! I’m back today with the first in June’s mini CAS card series. The next couple of cards in this mini series will give you some inspiration for using some alphabet dies to create custom sentiments. Today, I am combining the Stitched Alphabetters dies with the Big Bug Hugs stamp set, the Amazonian Leaves dies, the Happy Heffy Cuts word die and the Ring a Rosies stencil to create this simple but cute ‘Happy Bee-Day!’ card.

I started out by stamping the little bee onto some Alcohol marker cardstock with some Memento Tuxedo black ink. I coloured in the bee using yellow/orange and warm grey Copic markers, using at least three markers to get the dimension. Once finished, I cut him out with the coordinating dies and set him aside. As I often do before starting to assemble the card, I arranged the pieces onto a card base so I could perfect the layout.

Once happy, I die cut the individual pieces, cutting three of each and stacking them together to give some dimension. I used the Happy Heffy Cuts word die, the Stitched Alphabetters dies and an Amazonian Leaves die. For the leaves, I brushed on some Mowed Lawn Distress Ink to help avoid them looking too ‘flat’. I cut the ‘B’ and ‘E’s to replace the ‘birthday’ greeting and turn it a little punny.

For the background, I brushed on some Salty Ocean and then layered on some more ink over the Ring a Rosies stencil. This light background is hard to capture on the photos, but gives some background interest to an otherwise clean and simple card.

I used the sentiment from the Big Bug Hugs stamp set, partially inking up the sentiment so I could complete the greeting.

And finally, the last thing to do was adhere all the pieces to the card base!

Thanks for reading, catch you in two weeks for the next card in this mini series!
