Creative Color Combos – Bug Hugs

Hello friends! It’s Ashley with a new color palette for you to try as part of my Creative Color Combos series! Since we just entered June (that seems crazy!), I decided to try a nice summery color combination. Here is my color palette:

And here is the card I came up with:

The colors and bugs are perfect for the summer vibe I’m going for! I started this card by cutting a piece of white cardstock with the second largest Stitched Imperial Rectangle die and added it to a piece of green flower patterned paper from Sunny Studio Stamps. I used the Cloudy Skies stencil and Distress Oxides in Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar on another piece of white cardstock, then splattered white acrylic paint and pink watercolor on top. I added some grass using the Grassy Lass dies and Distress Oxides in Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron, splattered with white acrylic paint and green watercolor. I then die cut the blended piece with a Stitched Circle die and added it to my card.

Instead of my usual Copic markers, I decided to give my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers a try. I’m still learning, but it’s always fun to play with new media! Since I was going to be using Zigs, I stamped my images from Big Bug Hugs onto Bristol smooth cardstock in VersaFine Onyx Black and heat set. I colored them in with my Zigs, adding some white gel pen details and a bit of Wink of Stella shimmer to the wings. I added the cute bugs and mushrooms to my card, popping some of the bugs up with foam tape for dimension. I stamped the sentiment below the circle in black ink and finished with a few iridescent gems for some shine.

I still need practice with my Zigs, but I love how this card turned out! I hope you all give the color palette a try on your summery cards too!

Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!
