An Elephantastic Christmas

Hi Heffydoodlers! Ali joining you today. I have been getting in a few last minute Christmas cards and decided that this cute little elephant from Elephant of Surprise (HDS, SSS, ATC) just had to make it onto one of my cards. I also decided to have a go at pencil colouring for something different!! I like the look of pencil colouring on kraft card so combined these elements and this was the result!

I started by taking a piece of kraft card and stamping the elephant lightly in Memento Potters Clay ink (SSS). I then coloured him with Derwint coloured pencils in shades of grey (these were the only pencils I have and though not ideal, they seemed to be ok for now!).  I had watched a few YouTube videos of this technique and would suggest this is a good place to start if you think you’d like to give it a go.  I have some more practice to do but it was certainly fun to try something new!! I cut him out using the corresponding die (HDS, SSS). I then stamped & coloured a hat from the Blah Humbunny set (SSS, HBS) and fussy-cut.

I then made the background piece by Die cutting a rectangle (MFT, SSS), stamping the small snowflake from Warm Hugs (HDS, SSS, ATC) in versamark ink randomly on the piece and clear embossing.  I then used a sponge applicator to gently rub Hero Arts white pigment ink (SSS) over the piece and buffed with a cloth when done.  I then stamped out the “have an” & “Christmas” from the Elfish Christmas Words (HDS, SSS, ATC) and the “elephantastic” from the Elephant Of Surprise Set in Versamark ink and white embossed them.  I trimmed these to small strips. Using some 3D foam I popped up the background piece, attached the elephant with hat and the word strips.

I hope this card has inspired you to utilise the stamps you have for different occasional and to try pencil colouring!

Happy heffydoodling!

Ali x
