Dotty Lottie Stencil Love With Emily Mydlowski

Hello Crafty Friends! It’s Emily Mydlowski from @popsofpaper and I’m beyond excited to be here as a guest on the Heffy Doodle Blog! I had the best time dreaming up these bright and cheerful cards for you today. Thank you so much to Lesley and Jessica for inviting me to be here with you. Several Happy Dances have occurred 🙂

Dotty Lottie Stencil Love

I’m a little polka dot crazy. I love them in all shapes and sizes! I love to wear them and I love to create with them. When I saw the Dotty Lottie Stencil, I knew it needed to be a spotlight on my cards. I combined the Dotty Lottie Stencil to create two cards using the Everyday Sentiment Duos and the Gnome Matter What and Bots of Love stamps and matching dies.

Fun with Stencils

I’m pretty new to the stenciling scene for cardmaking. In fact, this is my first card using a stencil! What—How have I been missing out on all of this stenciling fun?! After experimenting, I found that blending brushes and finger-tip sponge daubers to be my favorite tools to apply ink. I also found that using a smaller blending brush can help you create some shading and dimension to your stenciled images.

Happy New Home!!

When I saw this big mushroom image in the Gnome Matter What set, I thought it would make for the perfect Welcome to Your New Home card. Just imagine a little magic door at the base of the mushroom for the full “home sweet gnome” effect.

Here’s how this card came together:

  1. Using the Dotty Lottie stencil and blending brushes, I created a bright yellow background using Distress Oxide inks in mustard seed, squeezed lemonade and a little spiced marmalade on Bristol white card stock.
  2. Stamped, Copic color and die cut the mushroom home.
  3. For the sentiment, I stamped, heat embossed with white embossing powder the Happy New Home sentiment to a black cardstock sentiment strip.
  4. Then I cut a few layers of yellow and white cardstock and added some red/white striped washi tape to the white cardstock layer for some extra pop.
  5. I adhered all of the elements to the stenciled card panel with foam tape and glue. Then everything was adhered to a black cardstock base that matches the sentiment strip.
  6. Optional step but highly recommended: Breathe, hold up your finished card and smile; maybe dance a little in celebration of your first stenciled card!

Happy Anniversary You Crazy Love Bots

The robots in the Bots of Love set seemed ready to party but also so full of love that I thought they were a perfect match for the Anniversary Sentiment in the Everyday Sentiment duos set.

This card came together in almost the same exact way as the Happy New Home card, except for a few things:

  • I used the Bots of Love Stamp Set and Matching Dies and the Happy Anniversary sentiment.
  • Instead of brushes to apply ink, I used sponge daubers so I could select where and what color was applied to each dot.
  • The color palette is a bit different *wink*. I used Distress Oxide Ink in picked raspberry, worn lipstick, cracked pistachio and peacock feathers.
  • The square stacking panel is now a rectangle and I used some black/white stripe washi for extra pop.

So there you are my friends, two happy and a Lottie dotty cards to celebrate A New Home and a special Anniversary.

I hope you enjoyed these card duos! Thank you again to the Heffy Doodle team for inviting me to be here today!

Big Paper Hugs!
Emily
