Tranquil Seaside Birthday Wishes
Hello, Tallie here with you today for a little bit of beachy inspiration!
I’m taking a slightly different approach today for my card. The weather has warmed up slightly and I’m wishing for days by the ocean, so my card features the You Go, Gull and Lil Lighthouse stamp sets. I’m combining some no-line colouring with some Distress Oxide Inking to create this seaside birthday wishes card!
Firstly, as with all good no-line colouring cards, I started with stamping out the elements to be coloured in alcohol markers. I used some Lawn Fawn Jellyfish ink and some Heffy Doodle Alcohol Marker Friendly Cardstock – my favourite no-line colouring combo!
It’s important with no-line colouring that you keep the contrast high between the shadows and the highlights to make up for the fact you don’t have that thick, black stamp line. I use at least four markers (for example, my favourite red combo is R89, R46, R24, R14) with a good range of saturation to get that definition that brings the elements alive.
Whites can be a bit tricky with no-line colouring, especially when trying to hide the stamped ink, so work in some extra shadowed areas and give some more definition! For instance, look at the back of the seagull’s head.
Starting on the background, I used some Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide Ink to ink up some panels. I die cut these with the wavy Lovely Little Borders die at varying heights so I could layer them up to look like the sea.
I stamped and die cut the birthday sentiment from the Whatcha Saying? stamp set in preparation, along with die cutting the coloured images with the coordinating dies.
Now the pieces were ready – on to assembly!
Next, I lightly brushed on some Broken China Distress Oxide Ink over the Cloudy Skies stencil onto a card base to give the sky some texture. I then layered up the wave panels, interspaced with the coloured die cuts.
The finishing touch was to add the sentiment popped up on a bit of foam tape!
I love the look of no-line coloured die cuts, especially with inked scenes like this, as I find the thick black lines make the coloured elements stand out oddly. So give it a go!
