Summertime Fun with the Fluffy Puffy Unicorns

Hi crafty friends!

My name is Peggy (@peggyemmerink on Instagram) and I’m so happy to be this month’s guest designer at Heffy Doodle. I have been crafting for about five years now and it absolutely is my therapy. I call it my happy place! Besides crafting, I love doing fun stuff with my partner and 3-year old son, reading books and listening to music. My partner and I own a record store in the Netherlands and I work fulltime as a youth policy maker for a local municipality. It is safe to say we are always quite busy!

My first card as a guest designer for Heffy Doodle in August just had to be a very summery card. I make all kinds of cards, but have the most fun when I can make scene cards with lots of stamped and coloured images. I often combine stamp sets and make slimline cards to have more room to fit on my grand ideas!

The Fluffy Puffy Unicorns is one of my favorite sets and this time the unicorns are going to the beach! So let me tell you how I made this card! I started out by stamping my images using alcohol marker friendly ink and a stamping tool. I stamped images from Fluffy Puffy Unicorns, A little Shellfish, and the little ball from Rescue Dogs. I die cut all images using the coordinating dies.

I also stamped the unicorns on some patterned paper, used a multiliner to draw bathing suits onto the bodies and fussy cut those out. Using some liquid glue, I adhered the bathing suits to the images. All images were then colored with copic markers, where I tried to follow the colour scheme of the patterned paper I chose. To finish the images, I used a white gel pen for some highlights and added some glossy accents.

To create the panels and background I used two different standalone die sets. I cut the largest of the stitched slimline trio dies out of some Ice Blast cardstock. Then I cut two slimline panels using the slimline mini mail die set from some heavy white cardstock, fit for distress ink. It has a super fun postage edge design. On one of the panels I created a cloudy sky using the cloudy skies stencil with a blending brush and some Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink.

The other postage edge slimline panel I cut into three parts to create two layers of beach sand and one layer of sea. I then used Tea Dye and Scattered Straw distress inks on the beach layers and Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers distress inks on the sea layer. I sprayed the panels with some water to create interest and used a splatter brush to add some white and gold paint splatters.

Lastly, I adhered everything using tape runner and liquid glue and stamped the sentiment ‘Seas the day’ from A little Shellfish. I hope you like my card and are inspired by it. Happy crafting!

Long distance hugs,

Peggy
