Scene Colouring: When Santa Got Stuck!

Hello, Heffy Doodlers! Tallie here and I’m back with the next card in my Scene Colouring series. I’m definitely in the Christmas mood and this card is inspired by one of the all-time great Christmas songs: When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney! Plus, it uses a non-Christmas stamp set – Teacher’s Pet – to get the most out of your stash! This one needed a little more planning than usual before I started the colouring, so I arranged the key elements onto a card base made of alcohol marker friendly card stock. I used a pencil and T-ruler to draw out the chimney and roof. Once the roof was pencilled in, I stamped out the other elements. I used the male bear from the Teacher’s Pet for Santa, with the presents from Santa’s Village and Elfish Antics. I used some Heffy Tape to mask off the background elements and create the scene. I used some Lawn Fawn Jellyfish ink as this is perfect for no-line colouring with alcohol markers. The colouring begins! Starting with the background, I used some blue markers to colour in a deep, dark night sky. Santa only comes in the night, right? 🙂 The roof is probably the biggest part of this card, but it came together really fast. To colour in the bricks, start with the darkest marker and make an L shape in the direction of your light source – in this case, the light is coming from the top right/middle. It will look a little flat to start off with, but the snow later will liven it up. The rest of the colouring came together nicely. I used warm, lighter colours for the focal points (Santa and his presents) to draw the eye straight to it. I added some of the finer details with my coloured pencils (mostly highlights and darkest shadows) and stamped the sentiment from the Holiday Sentiment Duos set in some Lawn Fawn Yeti Pigment Ink. I love the vintage feel this gives the card. I added lots of snow with some white gel pen. I think this is my favourite card of this year!

You drew the chimney & the roof! KUDOS to you! I love that card! What a super idea to turn the bear upside down & use it as the bottom half of Santa. Versatility – yay.
