Popping By Birthday

Hello, Tallie back again with you today with this mini scene card featuring the Popping By stamp setSometimes all you need is a little pop of rainbow to brighten up your scenes!

I started out by stamping the scene onto some alcohol marker blending cardstock with some Lawn Fawn Jellyfish ink – my favourite combo for no-line colouring! I had to do a bit of masking – Heffy Tape is perfect for this – so I stamped out the fox first, then the cake and then the two balloons.

As usual, I started off with the background. This is especially important with these bright colours as the lighter blues will bleed if you start the other way around. I chose a very light blue-green just to give some colour to the background and faded it out with my colourless blender.

And now for the rainbow! I knew the fox was going to be a bright red/orange/brown (E19/YR16/R05), so I chose my colour placing for the balloons accordingly – greens, teals and purples look great in contrast. I used at least three markers to get the depth of colour on each balloon, though I think I could probably do even more behind the fox just to bring him more into the foreground. He’s looking a little lost amongst all that colour!

I chose some E20s for the cake base – it’s got to be a chocolate sponge! – and some E50s for the vanilla icing with some cherry decorations.

Once the colouring was completed, the best way to boost your images and add in some of that finer detail is to use coloured pencils. It’s amazing what a black and white pencil will do!

I wanted to stamp out the ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment from the set underneath the cake, but I felt it needed a little grounding. I used some of the same E20s just to add a touch of ground, before stamping the sentiment in some Versafine Clair ink.

A bright and happy way to add colour to your scenes for any birthday card!
