My Hero! With Guest Designer Meg
Hi Heffy Doodlers! My name is Meg Russell, and I blog over at Twelve Inky Pawprints. I am super excited and honored to be guest designing this month!
For my first project, I chose to go with a superhero theme! Who doesn’t feel like a superhero when the Spring season arrives, and we shake off all the dreariness of the winter months.
I’ve used a combo of oldies but goodies and new Heffy Doodle products for my cards today, the Superdudes Clear Stamps, My Hero Heffy Cuts, Cityscape Stencil, and the Carnival Star Backdrop Die.
To design these projects, I first stenciled some clouds for a background and then stamped the clouds from the Super Dudes Clear Stamps onto the background.
Next, I used the Cityscape Stencil and looots of different inks to create a city. I started by stenciling the lightest color for the buildings, and then the next darker color for the lights in those buildings. Then, for my next layer of buildings, I moved the stencil down further on the paper to create depth, and stenciled with the next darkest ink. I completed this whole process maybe 3-4 times, getting darker with each layer.
Once I finished with the stencils, I fussy cut the entire piece as one element, and adhered it with dimensional foam to my background.
Then, I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and embossed it with white powder. I adhered the strip along the bottom of my project with dimensional foam.
I also diecut the My Hero Heffy Cuts in both black and another color (blue or purple, depending on my chosen colorway). I offset these sentiments to create depth and glued them to my project just above the sentiments.
I colored the kiddos from the Super Dudes Clear Stamps using the no-lines technique, which basically means stamping them in a light color rather than black. I adhered them with dimensional foam to the card front. The icing on the cake was adding the individual star pieces from the Carnival Star Backdrop Die.
These projects put a smile on my face, and make me think of Spring flowers and sunshine. I hope they bring a smile to your face today, too.
If my projects inspired you, I’d love to connect with you. You can find me on my blog, Twelve Inky Pawprints, and on Instagram.
