Happy Birthday Speech Bubbles on Kraft
Good morning! Jess here with my first post for Heffy Doodle! Today I’m using the Whatcha Sayin’ set to create a colorful card on kraft cardstock with the help of white pigment ink and distress oxides!
I started by taping a piece of A2 kraft cardstock to my grid worksurface so that I’d have an idea of the lines and spacing for my speech bubbles. Then I stamped the solid speech bubbles 20 times across my card base with white pigment ink. I ended up with a little excess on the top and bottom of my A2 panel so I eventually trimmed that down. I tried to randomize using the left facing or right facing speech bubbles to give it a more organic and natural look. In general I tried to not be too perfect with my stamping which I think makes it look more charming. I blasted the white pigment ink with my heat gun to set it and then stamped the solid bubbles over the ink using distress oxides.
When stamping on darker cardstock, applying a layer of white pigment ink beneath the oxides will really help the color pop! After I finished stamping all the distress oxides I went back and stamped the happy birthday sentiment with white pigment ink and the outlines with versafine.
On another sheet of black cardstock I stamped the speech bubble and sentiment with versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I used the coordinating dies to die-cut that speech bubble and popped it up on my card with foam mounting tape. Finally I adhered the kraft cardstock to an A2 panel of black cardstock and adhered it to a white top-folding card base! You could easily recreate this card in a variety of colors using different cardstocks or oxides to make masculine or feminine cards and it’s a breeze to mass-produce if you don’t allow yourself to get too caught up on making the stamping perfect. I kinda like the areas where the speech bubble outlines are slightly offset from the solid stamped areas. I think it gives the card a little more interest!
Thanks so much for stopping by today and have a fabulous crafty day!
