Creating an Easy Galaxy Background!
Hello Crafty Friends!
Thanks for joining me today for another fun Heffy Doodle project. It’s Father’s Day today so I’m sharing how I made this fun, Father’s Day card with an easy way to create a galaxy background.
I started off by cutting all the pieces for the Brooke 3D Box Card from some gorgeous Heffy Doodle Huckleberry Cardstock.
Starting with this dark blue cardstock really makes creating a galaxy background super easy. All you need to do is blob some ink over top to create the ‘supernova’ affect. I like to use Distress Oxide Inks as they sit on top of the paper. Finish off by blending a black ink around the edges and then go to town with splattering a white watercolour paint or watered down ink over top for that star detail. So much fun!
Before assembling my box card, I white heat embossed my sentiment onto the front strip and added a little bit of black ink to create some contrast.
Assembling the box card is super easy – start by attaching the angled side pieces to the back panel, then attach the front flap pieces, making sure the embossed sentiment is right at the very front.
I used images from the Spaced Out and You’re Weird stamp sets which I coloured and cut out using the coordinating dies and my Heffy Doodle Mini Die Cutting Machine. I glued my moon piece to the back of the very front panel and then mounted the other images onto some Heffy Doodle Extra Thick Clear Acetate so I could have them ‘floating’ in my galaxy.
Finally, I cut the word ‘dad’ three times from some Heffy Doodle Alcohol Marker Friendly Cardstock, using the Moxie Alphabet dies. I coloured one set with my red Copics to match the rocket ship. I layered these together with some glue, finishing with the red letters, which I offset slightly to create a drop shadow. This really helps the letters pop from that dark blue background.
It turned out so cute and it was really easy to create that galaxy background using the dark blue cardstock. To see the full tutorial, pop over to the Heffy Doodle YouTube Channel
Happy Father’s Day and see you next month!
