Birthday fishes to a cool friend! – Shadow Box Card
Hello Heffy Doodlers! Dennice here sharing a super fun shadow box card using a mix of awesome Heffy Doodle products. Although this is not my first time playing with Heffy Doodle’s yummmies (check out a few of my past projects here), it IS my first ever project as a Guest Designer on the Heffy Doodle blog, so I’m super excited to be here. As some of you may already know, I’m the tired… erm… happy mum of two healthy and (mostly) lovely kiddy-winkles: a 4.5 year old boy and a 1.5 year old girl. My son is in his first year of school and, as you can imagine, birthday parties throughout the year abound! And today is no exception, as this afternoon we will be attending his good friend Nandini’s 5th birthday party. Happy birthday Nandini! You hold a very special place in our hearts.
To create this card, I used a shadow box die (although you don’t need one! Just google “shadow box card instructions”) along with my Heffy Doodle “Warm Hugs” Stamps (HFD|SSS) and Dies (HFD|SSS). The full sentiment on my card reads “Birthday Fishes to a Cool Friend” and to find that “BIRTHDAY” sentiment I simply reached out for my Heffy Doodle “Happy Snappy Crocs” Stamp Set (HFD|SSS), from Heffy Doodle’s first release. Don’t you just love how the font in all of their stamp sets matches so perfectly?! Makes sentiment-building possibilities endless!
For my colouring, I was also inspired by Sandy Allnock’s human rainbow series to try and make the cute little boy and girl on this card look like my son and his friend… and I’m really chuffed with the result!
As for my creative process, I did a bit of ink blending on my card base using my distress inks. I used a home-made stencil (cut out from acetate using a cloud border die) to create my cloud background. I stamped my sentiment using some black pigment ink and I stamped my images with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on some mixed media paper, as I knew I would be colouring them with my Prismacolor pencils. When I was done colouring, I went over them with my stumps and a bit of baby oil to smooth out the colours, and I applied some Wink of Stella shimmer pen pretty much everywhere (although, perhaps for the best as I went a bit overkill with my sparkle, you can’t really see it on my photos!)
