‘Hoppy’ Valentine’s Card

Hi crafty friends! It’s Jarle here with a new card in my Sweet Scenes series for Heffy Doodle. I hope everyone enjoyed some time off during the holidays. I wish everyone a very happy, healthy and wonderful 2024!

I think it’s time to start working on some cards for Valentine’s Day. It can be fun to surprise your loved ones with a handmade card that shows how much you appreciate them. Maybe today’s card can give you a little bit of inspiration.

I started by blending a stitched rectangle piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I used Distress Oxides in the colors Speckled Egg, Peacock Feathers and Uncharted Mariner.

Tip: Always make sure to go back and forth between your colors. This ensures you’ll have a smooth blend.

Then I put the Layering Hearts stencil on top of the blended panel and with some Fairy Dust paste (Lawn Fawn) I stenciled on a few glittery hearts. This is very subtle, but it does add that little extra something to the card. I put this panel aside to dry.

I stamped a few images from the Be Hoppy stamp set on alcohol marker friendly cardstock with Jet Black ink (Lawn Fawn). Then I colored them in with my Copics:

  • Frogs: BG15 – BG13 – BG11 / R22 – R30
  • Cattails: E15 – E13 – E11 / G29 – G02 – G00
  • Rocks: N6 – N4 – N2

I added some white gel pen details on the stamped images and die cut them with the coordinating dies and the Heffy Doodle mini die cutting machine.

Then I die cut a grassy border. I used some light green cardstock (Kiwi Crush) and the Freshly Cut Grass dies. I added some Lucky Clover Distress ink on the edges, to continue that ink blended look.

When the background panel was dry, I adhered the grassy border directly onto the panel with dry adhesive.

I wanted a big bold sentiment, so I die cut the Jumbo I Heart You out of white cardstock. I did the shadow out of black cardstock (Oreo). I adhered these together with liquid glue. I added some foam squares on the back and put it down in the middle of my card panel.

As a last step, I added my colored images on the panel as well. I did a combination of regular adhesive and foam squares. Then I adhered my panel on a white card base.

I really like how it turned out. I am in love with that bold black & white sentiment. And of course… Those cute little frogs. One of my favorite stamp sets from Heffy Doodle!

Thank you SO much for reading through. I really appreciate it!

Love, Jarle x
