Eclipse Card With Jumbo Hang In There
Hi Heffy Doodlers
I’m happy to be back on the Heffy Doodle blog with another project in my ‘Sweet Scenes’ series. You might already know that I love the Jumbo Sentiment dies from Heffy Doodle. You can make a big impact with those big sentiments and … – what is also a plus – … you can create quick and easy cards if you want.
For this card, I decided to bring back an oldie but goodie technique with the Hang In There Jumbo die. I wanted to make an eclipse card. You might have already heard of this technique. I will try to explain how this technique works below.
First, I worked on my background. For that I die cut a Whimsically Wonky rectangle out of Bristol Smooth cardstock. This is my go to cardstock for ink blending. I temporarily adhered this card panel on my Make Art station. I placed the Unbeleafable stencil on top of my panel. I went in with 3 colors of Distress Oxide: Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio and Lucky Clover. I started with the lightest (Twisted Citron) and I pounced in the ink with my paper pouncers. Then I went over a few areas with the slightly darker Cracked Pistachio, also with the paper pouncers. For the Lucky Clover I used some detailed blending brushes. I added some of that dark ink in a few small areas. I removed my stencil and it revealed that lovely leaves pattern. I did went in with the remaining ink of the Twisted Citron all over my panel. I could have just used some colored cardstock to do my stenciling on, but I only realised after the stenciling was done.
To add a bit of interest to the background, I splattered on some Copic White and Lucky Clover ink, both diluted with water. I set this panel aside to dry.
After that, I stamped a few images from the Chimply The Best stamp set. I stamped them with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink on Heffy Doodle alcohol marker friendly cardstock. I let it dry for about 5 minutes and then I colored everything in with my Copics. I used these colors:
- Branch: E18 – E15 – E13
- Leaves: G17 – G02 – G00
- Monkeys: E44 – E43 – E42 / E42 – E41 – E40 + R22 – R30
Of course, I used the coordinating dies and the lovely Heffy Doodle mini die cutting machine to cut out my images.
When my background panel was all dry, it was time for the ‘eclipse card technique’. I placed the Jumbo Hang In There die on top and I die cut that sentiment out of that panel. Make sure to save all the pieces for later! I adhered the left over panel (with the sentiment cut out) on top of Oreo Crush cardstock. You really need a dark cardstock for this!
Then I die cut that same Jumbo Sentiment 3 times again. 2 times out of plain white cardstock and one time out of Oreo Crush cardstock. Then I stacked all those 4(!) layers: 1 layer of black cardstock, 2 layers of white cardstock. The stenciled sentiment piece goes on top.
With liquid glue, I adhered my Jumbo Sentiment on my background panel. I also glued down the left over pieces I saved earlier. The sentiment is now popped up on that background panel BUT it has the same background pattern.
I glued down my cute little monkeys on the background panel as well before adhering it to an A2 sized card base. To finish it off I placed some dots with Nuvo Jewel Drops in Key Lime as well.
I hope you like this inspiration and, if you haven’t done it already, please give this eclipse card technique a go. I know it’s an old technique, but you can still create fun and cute cards with it!
Have a great day and thanks for being with me today!
Love, Jarle x
