May Heffy Doodlers Challenge
Hey crafty friend, it’s Amanda Stevens again, and it’s time to announce the winner of the April Heffy Doodlers Challenge! I’d like to thank everyone who entered the Creating Smiles/Clean & Simple challenge last month. We had so many fantastic entries! Make sure you’ve joined the Heffy Doodlers group on Facebook. You can share your projects and meet new crafty friends. I try to share Lesley’s weekly videos there too as soon as she goes live.
April’s winner is Meghan Kennihan, with her sweet Veggie Patch card! She actually made several adorable cards for the challenge with this set. If you didn’t get a chance to see them, head on over to the Heffy Doodlers Facebook group and check them out! Let’s congratulate Meghan here, and on Facebook. To choose the winner, all entries (except those by Lesley and the current design team) were assigned a number, in order of posting. We used random.org to choose the winning number.
As we dive into May, we’re also kicking off a new challenge. Are you ready? May’s theme is Happy Mail! In these days of quarantine, it is so nice to feel connected to our friends and family any way we can. This month, let’s create and send lots of happy mail to our loved ones. Make a card using Heffy Doodle products (mostly). Then, enter it for your chance to win a £35 gift card! (If you win, you’ll have happy mail coming your way!) The challenge starts now in the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group, and runs through May 31, 2020. To help inspire you, I created this cheerful card…
Isn’t it cute? I have to tell you, I don’t normally draw my own scenes for backgrounds, but I’ve been pushing myself to try new techniques, and I think I did okay with this one. It was actually much easier than I thought it would be. First, I stamped the dogs and mail box from Yappy Happy Mail, masking off the top dog, and letter, as I stamped. I colored them with Copic markers. Then it was time to decide what to do for the background.
I used a ruler and Copic Multiliner to draw the sidewalk, and added a window in the corner. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for the building’s texture yet, so I colored the sidewalk and window. At that point, I decided the background needed more color, and I wanted to try my hand at bricks. In order to give them a rough, imperfect size, but still keep them lined up, I used the ruler and a pale grey marker to draw the grout lines. Then, I was able to use my multiliner pen to draw a loose outline of the individual bricks and color them. I added a lot of dots to the wall and sidewalk to add texture and hide areas I wasn’t happy with. If you look closely, you can see the mistakes, but I absolutely love it anyhow! To finish the card, I popped it up with foam onto a red card base, and added a few gems. What do you think?
Alright, are you feeling inspired to create some happy mail of your own? Pull out your Heffy Doodle stamps and get started! To enter, go to the Heffy Doodlers Facebook Group and post a picture of your project in the May 2020 Challenge album (it will be pinned to the top). Enter as many cards as you like. The winner will be randomly chosen from all entries posted prior to 11:59pm (UT) on May 31, 2020. You are not limited to cards, feel free to post tags, mini albums, etc; anything you can mail to cheer a pal up. Just be sure the bulk of the stamps and dies used are from Heffy Doodle. Good luck my friend!
Questions, just ask. Need some more inspiration to get you started? Follow Heffy Doodle on Pinterest! You can find boards with themes and specific stamp sets. Got an idea, but need some new Heffy Doodle goodies? Head on over to the shop and stock up; we’re open and shipping as usual! Remember, you enter the challenge in the Facebook group, not here. And as always, let’s keep it PG please 😉
I’ll be back on June 2nd to announce the winner and the next challenge. Until then, I’ll see you on Facebook…
