An Out of This World Christmas Card with Laura Volpes

Hi everyone! Today I am back with another installment in my Scene Building series here on the Heffy Doodle blog and this time we are going in outer space for a non traditional Christmas card!

I started by creating my galaxy background on some watercolor cardstock that I had previously die cut with the Heffy Doodle Clover Frames dies.
I used the ink blending technique and Harmony Inks in the colors Fuchsia, Parakeet, Spring Meadow, Midnight and Jet Black.
I first put down the brighter colors in different spots on my background and then blended Midnight and Jet Black ink in the areas in between.

Once I was done ink blending I created the stars with my Gansai Tambi Starry colors and a small paintbrush. After the watercolors were completely dry I also darkened my background some more by blending my Harmony ink in Jet Black over the edges of the panel.

I then moved on and started working on my images. I used the You’re Weird stamp set and I combined it with the Wanna Build a Snowman and Santa’s Village stamp sets. I used the Christmas tree and the star from the former and the present from the latter. The santa hat is part of a stamp set in my stash.
I did some masked stamping in the space ship capsule, so that I could fill it up with presents (the Heffy Doodle Memo Tape is great for masking).
The colors of Illustrator markers I used for each image are listed in the picture below.

For the sentiment I used a greeting from the Whatcha Sayin’ Now stamp set and I stamped it with white pigment ink. The speech bubble stamp and the coordinating die are part of the Whatcha Sayin’ stamp set. I stamped the speech bubble image with black ink and die cut it with the matching die.

I adhered everything to the galaxy background and added some highlights with a Gelly Roll pen and some sparkle with my Crystal stickles.

And that’s it for today! I really hope you enjoyed this non-conventional Christmas card today, I definitely had a lot of fun making it!

Thank you all for stopping by and have a great day!

Laura
